Acclaimed Argentinian photographer and performance artist Claudia Jares explores questions of sexuality, secrecy, and religion with the raw eroticism that has become the hallmark of her style. Balancing a celebration of acceptance with a reflection on the clandestine, furtive history of queer sexuality, these captivating black-and-white images challenge the viewer as voyeur while also inviting empathy for the intimate world of Jares’ subjects.
Claudia Jares’ photographs are part of the collection at the Royal Alberta Museum in London, as well as private collections in the U.S., Argentina, and Germany. Her award-winning photography book, Dark Tears, a profound exploration of human desire and queer sexuality in Latin America, was published in the U.S. by The New Press in 2019.
